In recent days there have been a chain of violent attacks and homicides on private citizens in the area as well as a Cartel imposed curfew on the town under the threat of violence / death. In the video threat posted online, it also said that any taxis out circulating after dark would be stopped and burned. The only official response from the local Municipal Government was an announcement of “increased patrols and checkpoints” while at the same time insisting that it is safe for tourists to travel to the port city on the Gulf of California. State public security authorities have routinely been responsive when we have reached out to them with such concerns but have not responded to our recent concerns, possibly because of the timing in this Holiday Season.
